New Project!

I have been wanting a greenhouse for a long time, and it’s finally happening!!! Yippie!! I love Pinterest, and have been surfing through all the info I can find on building, designing and maintaining one. My dream greenhouse would be made of old windows and full of character but, for now something like this will have to do.

And here is the beginning of this new project!

Have you built a greenhouse, do u have one or know someone that does? I would love to see your pictures and hear your advice and suggestions! Thanks and happy greenhousing!!!!

Winter Storm

I’m that girl that loves every season! There is so much beauty in each season and all the changes we experience. Here in our little town in Ohio we get a lot of changes during each season. This winter has went by with not much snow and a lot of cold recently, but we finally got a break in temperatures and a decent amount of snow! So my little lady and I ventured out yesterday to enjoy the wonders of winter and snow!!!

IMG_2972
We had a great time!! And after we came in of course we had to warm up with snuggles and hot cocoa topped with marshmallows! Yummy!!!

IMG_2973
Then this morning we were graced with even more beauty, after a night of foggy misty frosty snow stuff! We woke up to this work of art!

IMG_2971
The pictures don’t quite do it justice. But trust me it is gorgeous!! Happy winter! ✌️❤️😃

Growing garlic!!!!!

So today I decided to plant garlic. I have tried to grow it in the past but with no success. Lately things have been growing better and better for me so I thought I’d give it a shot. There is hardly a meal that goes by in this house that I don’t put garlic in, and to know I grew it myself, even better! The best part of all is I had the best helper ever!!!

IMG_2940
It warms my heart so, to watch her so interested in growing things! It’s a skill for life. She helped spread the dirt around ever so gently, then helped pull apart the garlic cloves and made sure they were just right and pushed them down in the dirt!!!! I think she’s got my green thumb. Eeeee yay!

Also I found this handy shelf thing for my countertop.

IMG_2934
Now I’ve got more space for more greenhouses! Yippie!!!!

Happy growing!!! ✌️❤️😃

My poor chicken…

Yesterday afternoon I went out to check on my chickens, as I do off and on throughout my day. It’s been really cold here but we haven’t had a bunch of snow so my girls have been out and about all day, except yesterday half of them were in the run. When I poked my head in to the run I found one of my brownies (if you’ve read my other posts you know these are the ones I rescued) with her head covered in blood…. Oh my as I looked around to assess the situation I seen blood spattered all over the run. So I ran around to the coop to check things out in there to figure out what was going on and a cat jumped out of one of the nesting boxes! I don’t have cats!! My poor chicken!!! I called my mom and husband to come help and we brought her inside to try to clean her up and figure out what happened.
WARNING!!! These pictures are not for the weak stomached.

IMG_2922
We took her up to the shower to rinse her off and figure out where she was injured at. She kinda liked it I think.

IMG_2924
After we got her cleaned up we found her comb damaged pretty badly. I think she was trying to get out of the coop and it must have caught on her way out, I don’t think it was the cat…. So we tried to put tapioca flour (I was told this is the same as cornstarch) but I guess it’s not because it sure didn’t help. Then we tried pepper, which was a disaster, she bled even worse after that. So after holding her and trying to blot at it and her flinging blood everywhere, it looked like a murder scene. ( lol ok so maybe not that bad) The bleeding finally slowed way down and I got her to eat some yogurt, high in protein and easy for her to digest, figured it would help her recover. She really enjoyed the treat and chowed down.

IMG_2921-0
I took an old rabbit cage down to our basement so she could have a quiet night to rest. I was also really worried the other hens might pick at her…

IMG_2929-0
She is doing much better today and I am hoping to put her back in with her friends this evening. Poor thing….

How to starts seeds indoors 😃

So after my post yesterday, I thought I’d plant some more seeds and document the whole process for those of you who may be wondering how it’s done.

Supplies I used:

*Countertop/ windowsill greenhouse (you could be creative and use egg cartons and plastic wrap or small cups and plastic wrap, just depends on what you wana use)

*organic seed starting soil (again you could use non organic or other garden soil, it just depends what you want to use)

*seeds (I chose non GMO)

*notebook to log your info on

IMG_2841

Now fill all the little compartments with soil, DONT PACK IT!! Keep it light n fluffy so those roots can grow easier. And take ur pinky and waller out a lil hole in the center about half inch deep, again be careful not to pack the soil. Now your ready to drop in your seeds!! Yippie!!

IMG_2843
Now I wrote on my greenhouse at this point, left and right sides and it was greenhouse number 2 for me, so I wrote that on it too.

IMG_2846
Then I wrote on my notebook what I planted in what spots and wrote the date I planted them.

IMG_2849
Now sit your greenhouse in a warm spot and water throughly. Then carry on about your business because it’s gona take a little while before they sprout. Here’s the finished product.

IMG_2848
Hope you enjoyed this post and feel free to leave comments or ask any questions! Good luck and happy planting! ✌️❤️😃

Growing stuff!

I’m that girl that LOVES growing stuff!! So I decided about two weeks ago that I couldn’t take it anymore, and I got out my dirt and countertop greenhouse (because I don’t have a big one yet) and planted seeds.

IMG_2834
I’ve been using a lot more herbs in my cooking, so it seemed perfect to start an herb garden! I planted basil, sage, thyme and oregano!! Woo hoo! They are coming along quite nicely if I do say so myself 😃👏👏👏👍 Also decided to see if I can grow an avocado tree…. We shall see how it goes…. So far the seed just hangs out like it’s in a hot tub lol

Happy Growing Folks!!!

Green eggs!!!

So I rescued these two brown chickens a few months ago. These poor chickens were missing most of the feathers on their back ends when I got them and had been tortured so much I was worried they would never be welcomed by the rest of my flock… But with much persistence they have most of their feathers back and have finally made friends with the other ladies!!! Yay!!! This makes me so happy!!! Here they all are in the coop together snuggling!!

IMG_1997
Well sorta snuggling, kinda funny how they separate themselves like that. Here’s my brown beauties enjoying a winter day!!!

IMG_2617
So the other day I went out to get eggs and I found a green egg!!!! Eeep!! It just tickles me pink to have chickens that lay such fun eggs!! I’m so happy that my brownies are finally laying and to get such special eggs from them, it’s wonderful!!!!

IMG_2783
Green eggs!!!!! Yippie!!!
I love my chickens!!!!

I love my dehydrator!!!

I never knew how bad I needed a dehydrator until this past fall. Mom had been dehydrating jerky for as long as I can remember it seems, but last year she started dehydrating our tomato skins, who knew?!? You can use tomato powder to make paste or sauce or just add it to anything tomatoey you are fixing! Great find mom! Wish I had pictures of this process… I’ll have to post on this with pictures next time we do it. So I thought I need one of these great inventions!! Since then I’ve dehydrated my own skins along with mushrooms

IMG_1816
Dried mushrooms store great and are so handy to have around (for those mushroom lovers out there)
Then I dried garlic, it makes your house smell sooo good!

IMG_1830
It’s a LOT of prep work but so worth it!!

IMG_1831
I also dried onions, don’t have any pictures of this either…. I must get better about taking more pictures!! Onions are easier than garlic but not nearly as yummy smelling. Final product here. Made onion powder and salt, and garlic powder and salt!!! Yummy! And we know what is in our food!!

IMG_2700
Happy dehydrating!!!

Canning overview!!

We are in the dead of winter here, and I couldn’t be more thankful of all the hard work I put into food prep last summer and fall. Cuz, I’m that girl that cans and freezes and grows stuff!! If I can’t or don’t grow it I buy it local or get it from mom n dads garden (they have more room for gardening than I do) 😄 This past year was the most I’ve ever canned and prepped, whether by myself or with the help of my mom, husband or kids. So I thought I’d share what all we did, because I’m anxious for this year!!!
I already posted about canning chicken, refer to my last post.
Then it went to green beans and corn (corn is better frozen)

IMG_1047
Then celery, decided to freeze it in small pieces so I could just take what I need out of the bag and put it back in till I need more.

IMG_1322

IMG_1209
Then came the tomatoes!!! I LOVE tomatoes!!!! Especially the orange ones, and they say they are better for you!!

IMG_1520
Applesauce!!! (First time for this)

IMG_1471
Carrots, I did these in tiny soup portion jars!!

IMG_1473
And pearsauce, I had intended on sliced pears but they are from a really old tree so sauce it is!!

IMG_1815
Then I did banana peppers

IMG_1832
We also did red beets and cowboy stew and sweet pickle relish. But I don’t have pictures of those 😕
One last picture here of my garden from last year. Can’t wait for the planting season to start again here!!! Here’s hoping I get to build a greenhouse soon!!

IMG_0897
Ok, and one more of my canned goods, well most of them. Lol

IMG_1551
Happy gardening and canning!! ✌️❤️😄

Chickens adventures!!!

So almost a year ago now, we got chickens. I had 8 little white fluff balls in my basement in a kiddie pool.

IMG_0112
They have been so much fun to have around!! As they got older and we could move them outside I realized I need to build a coop and run for them. Temporarily they lived in a rabbit hutch.

IMG_0117
Then I rescued scrap wood from my dads job site (he builds houses and was just gona burn it up) and worked for about a week building them a coop! We don’t have much space where we are at now, so it needed to b small.

IMG_0360

IMG_0448

IMG_0466

IMG_0390
The end result was this beautiful coop that looks like a playhouse in my yard!!!

IMG_0511
Next will be the run, but the fencing worked until I got around to it! As the chickens got older I found I had 4 roosters… I wanted laying hens, so I took my roosters to the local butcher shop and took care of that. Brought them home and then came my first experience with canning chicken!! Eeep! It was so exciting!!

IMG_1010

IMG_1091
There’s the canned chicken and broth on the top left! Then came the need for more hens. I came across some beautiful black n white chickens at a garage sale, of all places lol. They have been a great addition to my flock!!

IMG_1644
Now I was getting back to where I wanted to be, 6 chickens!! We would go out and spend as much time with them as we could, because my goal is to have happy chickens, pets with a purpose!!! And here’s where my story gets sad , one of my white hens got sick…. She got an impacted crop which then became infected and soured…. As I didn’t want to give her antibiotics I treated it as much as I could for almost a month, thought she was getting better, but then one morning I went out to check on her and I knew her battle was over…. She just layed there with her eyes closed…. It was so sad 😓 We had to put her down…. Here she is on one of her last few days with us…

IMG_1342
Then came the time to build a run! I love building stuff!

IMG_1565

IMG_1563
And here’s the finished run!!

IMG_1703
Turned out pretty great if I do say so myself!! And my ladies love it!!!! Yay!!! I’d say that’s enough for this post on my chickens. Thanks for reading! 👍😄
