The Fire Drill

We upgraded our pool this year. Because we went bigger we didn’t want to fill it with our well, so I looked into other options. Evidently in some areas the local fire department will come out and fill your pool! Awesome! My husbands son, uncle and cousin are all on the Pleasant Hill fire department so we put in a call to them. They said for a donation they would come out and asked if they could use it as a drill!!! Perfect! We said of course, that would be great! We sat out that evening in the yard awaiting the fire trucks. Such a strange feeling waiting with excitement for fire trucks to show up to your house. Especially after we watched our neighbors house burn just this past winter. I figure it’s not to often that they pull up somewhere to smiling faces, so that’s probably a nice change of pace.

What a great experience for all of us!! This was far more than just getting our pool filled. A great way for the kids to learn, up close and personal! We all know I’m that girl that loves to make everything an adventure and this one was a huge success! Thank you Pleasant Hill fire department for all that you do!! They even left here with lights and sirens going!! Here’s a little video of our adventure!!

A second trip to Shipshewana!

When you make as much food at home as I do, you tend to need lots of supplies. Buying bulk is my favorite and it’s also sensible! This time I took mom and the kids out to Shipshewana, Indiana. Mom had never been and I couldn’t wait to show her this adorable little town! We came back with lots of great stuff! 50lb. bags of sugar and popcorn, 25lbs. of flour, 10lb. bags of cornmeal and cocoa powder and so much more!!

We had an amazing time!! Happy adventuring all!!!

Peyton Turns 10

Yes, another birthday!!! I love birthdays! It was a wonderful yet really hard day for me. My little guy is getting so big and becoming quite the young man. I am so proud of him but it is hard to choke down that he is ten! We took off for Indian Lake, a beautiful place about an hour and a half from home, to spend the day fishing and hanging out on my dads jobsite.  Then ended his birthday with a small party at home!

Happy Birthday Peyton!! I love you!!

Christiansburg

So on a whim I was looking through Facebooks rummage sale page and found a swing tent thing for Edyth!!! Awesome tent great price! I will write more about this swing tent thing in another post. So again because I’m that girl that loves adventures we take off on a short journey to Christiansburg. The lady we were meeting said there was a quaint little restaurant that has great food, so we thought we would check it out!!

She was right! It was a neat little small town place with a great menu!!! If you are ever in town check it out and tell them you read about it on my blog!!

Garage Sale Adventure

So this little town about 40 minutes from us had some community garage sales. Mind you, I’m that girl that LOVES garage sales, so we don’t hesitate to travel to find some good stuff!! This little town doesn’t have any gas station or fast food joints so when your kids need to use the restroom you have no other choice but to check out the local bar scene. We were lucky to have such a cool place up in McCartyville. One of those hole in the wall places with great people, good food, a really rad vintage bowling game and you can put your name on a dollar and hang it on the wall!! We had a great time!!!

On the way home we stopped at a park at Lake Loramie for more fun!!

We even found some things to make a fishing pole with!!!

Life’s to short to not make an adventure out of every outing!!

127 Worlds Longest Yard Sales

The other weekend we went on a fabulous adventure to the 127 Worlds Longest Yard Sales!!! It was such a great time! Three days of jam packed garage sales, how can you go wrong? If you have ever been, I hope your experience was as great as ours!! It is so hard to describe, you just have to see it for yourself!  I love garage saleing, a lot, my kids seem to share my passion for it as well and I am so thankful for that. Here’s a few pictures. I should have taken more but we were so busy having such a great time!!

(It looked like this everywhere you went)

 (Super neat old stuff)

(Everyone please notice Edyth posing)
(she is the cutest shopper ever)

We got some amazing deals and fabulous finds!!

The route we took on Thursday took us all the way to a large lake in our area, so we stopped by the water for a nice little break from the wonderful madness of worlds longest garage saleing.

Saturday was Itsy’s birthday, so we took her with us! She had an amazing time as well! Boy was she worn out!!

Happy garage saleing folks!!!

Our Trip to Michigan

We went to the New Era, Michigan area this past weekend, my husband grew up there and his best friend was getting married. So we left a few days early to do some sight seeing, and sight see we did! Winter here in Ohio is nothing compared to winter in Michigan! The farthest north I had ever been was Battle Creek, and had never traveled north in the winter, so this was an extraordinary experience for me. There was SO much snow!!

We went to the sand dunes! I have heard so much about them but I really had no idea how incredible they were.

Lake Michigan was frozen almost as far as the eye could see! While these kinds of places are beautiful in summer, there is so much beauty in winter!

We even seen those adorable little ice fishing shacks on the frozen lake!!!

There was one guy drilling a hole for ice fishing and we got to watch him!

One spot called the ovals, we walked out on the beach and could actually see waves off in the distance. It made me well up so many times to see such beauty!

Reuben took us through this town called Ludington, where we saw these HUGE ships! What a sight!!

There was this giant weathervane in one town.

Snowmobiles are everywhere up there! They have trails for them and in a lot of the parking lots there’s  snowmobile parking, just like we have motorcycle parking here! Wild!!!!

There was a snowmobile ride for kids even!!!

While we were there we stayed at this quaint little motel called the Montgomery Inn. It was a fabulous little Inn that I definatly recommend you stay at if you are up that way!

We also ate at some really fun places, I didn’t get pictures of all of them. But I did get a picture of this Brown Bear place, good burgers there!

So many things in this part of Michigan are different than what we are used to here. Like they have markers for their fire hydrants so they can find them under all the snow!! Who knew?!?! We saw people snow blowing off their roofs! One of the biggest differences I saw was fruit fields, or orchards, I’m not sure what you call them, but they are everywhere! You drive around Ohio and you see corn fields and bean fields but not in Michigan, it’s a rare sight to see a corn field and the few people that have them, have them to feed their animals.

 It was a GREAT trip!!!

Have you ever been there? I would love to hear about what it was like for you!!
