Garage Sale Adventure

So this little town about 40 minutes from us had some community garage sales. Mind you, I’m that girl that LOVES garage sales, so we don’t hesitate to travel to find some good stuff!! This little town doesn’t have any gas station or fast food joints so when your kids need to use the restroom you have no other choice but to check out the local bar scene. We were lucky to have such a cool place up in McCartyville. One of those hole in the wall places with great people, good food, a really rad vintage bowling game and you can put your name on a dollar and hang it on the wall!! We had a great time!!!

On the way home we stopped at a park at Lake Loramie for more fun!!

We even found some things to make a fishing pole with!!!

Life’s to short to not make an adventure out of every outing!!

A girl and her sunflowers

Every year I grow sunflowers, it’s a must do! Edyth seems to share my love for these beautiful flowers and asked me numerous times to take her picture with the sunflowers. She’s such a cutie!!

We leave our sunflowers up all winter too and love watching the birds play around on them!!! Do you love sunflowers too? Share your story with me.

Paying homage to my garden!

Gardening season is fast approaching and I’m giddy with excitement! I love planting, growing and tending to my garden, it feeds my soul! The kids are great helpers with the garden, which is wonderful! I have very fond memories of growing up helping my parents in the garden. So with that being said, here are some pictures of my garden and fabulous produce!!

We got some strange shaped produce this year too!!

 Happy gardening people!!!

Green Bean Snappin

I’m that girl that loves snappin green beans! I know so many people dread dealing with green beans. I on the other hand LOVE it!! My love for this wonderful pastime has been passed on to my daughter it appears, she helps with every bit of it!

This year we had an over abundance of beans so I got to be creative and canned not only a bunch of snapped beans but we also did dilly beans and garlic dilly beans!! Yummy!!

I can’t say it enough just how satisfying it is to grow and preserve our own food!!

Peaches 🍑

At a local farmers market over summer, we picked up some peaches. How can you pass up peaches?? So as we all know, I’m that girl, that girl that canned us some peaches and peach jam. Yummy right?!?!

If you notice in the first picture we put an x on the bottom before dropping in hot water and they peeled so much easier. Which is good because I decided to try dehydrating the skins (like I do with tomatoes) and make peach powder!

I was dissapointed that the powder didn’t smell very peach-like but I put it in any baked good and just like that added nutrients!! I try not to be wasteful with our food you know! (Smile)

Tomatoes!

It’s been a while since I have posted. I’m back though and going to catch you up on all the adventures and projects we have been so busy with. I’m that girl that loves tomatoes!!! This past year I grew some of the best tomatoes yet.

We made tomato juice (of course) and sauce this year. I had never made tomato sauce before, it always seemed so intimidating, soooo many tomatoes cooked down to practically nothing. With the way we go through tomato sauce I really wanted my own this time. So I sucked it up and cooked down my tomatoes for hours.

It was worth every effort for this sauce!! Delicious! Can’t wait to do it again this year!!!

127 Worlds Longest Yard Sales

The other weekend we went on a fabulous adventure to the 127 Worlds Longest Yard Sales!!! It was such a great time! Three days of jam packed garage sales, how can you go wrong? If you have ever been, I hope your experience was as great as ours!! It is so hard to describe, you just have to see it for yourself!  I love garage saleing, a lot, my kids seem to share my passion for it as well and I am so thankful for that. Here’s a few pictures. I should have taken more but we were so busy having such a great time!!

(It looked like this everywhere you went)

 (Super neat old stuff)

(Everyone please notice Edyth posing)
(she is the cutest shopper ever)

We got some amazing deals and fabulous finds!!

The route we took on Thursday took us all the way to a large lake in our area, so we stopped by the water for a nice little break from the wonderful madness of worlds longest garage saleing.

Saturday was Itsy’s birthday, so we took her with us! She had an amazing time as well! Boy was she worn out!!

Happy garage saleing folks!!!

Baseball!!!

We had talked a few times last spring about taking the kids to a baseball game. Mind you, I am not a big sports person but throughly enjoy going to games with the kids! On a poker run last summer, we bought tickets through their silent auction for a Dayton Dragons game. Seemed fitting to get to take the kids to a game and the money spent went to a local rehabilitation organization!! This year we did the same thing, and once again had a great time!!!

Summertime is great!!

Blueberries!!

I’m that girl, that girl that can make something from whatever you give me! On a whim the other day I bought 30lbs of fresh, just picked blueberries.

What do you do with that many fresh blueberries? I had to call in for reinforcements (mom) and we froze 18 pint bags of whole blueberries and turned the rest into preserves (like a jam basically) for things like, cheesecake, pancakes, smoothies, add a little to your lemonade or whatever you want!!! We had so much fun!!

What would you do with 30lbs of blueberries?
