New Garden Boxes

During the early part of April, we made some big changes to the garden. As some of you who read my blogs already know, I garden in garden boxes. We moved the boxes from up by the house to out by the greenhouse, yay!! It was a great decision to move them and to top it off we built some more boxes. It makes me so happy to have so much more space to grow stuff!!

Wanna know more about gardening in boxes? Just ask me, read my blog posts, keep checking for more posts to learn more as well

Pear Sauce!!

For the past few years we have been going to a place not far from our house and picking pears from a really old pear tree. We used to just pick a few to eat on but I started feeling bad for this poor tree, producing all these wonderful pears but only a small amount were being enjoyed. So I decided to go pick a bunch and can sliced pears. But after I got them home and started to process them, I realized these were not going to slice up and can well. So I tried running them through the processor and making sauce. No sugar needed here, this stuff is delicious!!! It goes over better here than applesauce! To think that it all happened by accident too! Anyhow, here’s pictures from our annual pear picking day and pear sauce making!!!

We just can’t get enough of this stuff around here. Want tips and instructions on how to make it? Just leave me a comment and let me know and I’ll post instructions. Until next time folks!!

Garden Gorgeousness 2016

I love my garden!! I love watching it grow, I love watering it and I love going out to pick produce. So naturally I must post about it!!

I try to keep the kiddos involved as much as I can. It’s so important for them to know where there food comes from and how to grow it!

In the picture below shows our pole bean teepee. I love the teepee however, I did not care for the quality of the bean it produced. I typically use blue lake bush beans and they are wonderful. Might have to go back to those.

The tomatoes in the picture below are a super sauce tomato, it’s the first year I have ever grown them. I was really impressed with these all around. Flavor was great, though I still prefer my orange tomatoes, hardly any seeds, and lots of meat!

The tomato plants got huge again this year and produced a plethora of tomatoes! Really pleased with the new tomato cages as well, I think we need to go bigger next year.

This amazing tomato plant in the picture below struggled all season long. It was fascinating that even though it looks mostly dead it still was putting off cherry tomatoes!! What a trooper!

Gardening is a huge passion of mine. Do you garden? I’d love to hear about it.
